About our music

The original impetus for the group was a desire to recreate more inclusive and varied early music than is usually heard in early music ensembles which often limit their repertoire to music of Western European courts and cathedrals.  To that end, the geographic range of our music stretches from Great Britain, Poland, Spain and Scandinavia to include music of Native America and Africa.

Our wedding repertoire includes  music from Jewish, Catholic and Protestant literature,  as well as a large secular catalog.   We have played for a huge variety of ceremonies from High Church to Celtic handfasting.

Concert repertoire is determined by the tastes and needs of our particular audience.  For example...

  • A concert of theatre music would include music from Shakespeare's plays (ask about our Shakespeare's Birthday Party), Purcell's dramas and even film scores.
  • We have done a Spanish-influenced concert which included the Aztec version of the Christmas story with a Oaxacan narrator and traditional drums and rattles.
  • Music of rarely heard composers from Poland and Scandinavia is included in parts of Texas where their descendants live.
  • We do an amazing children's concert featuring musical setting of Mother Goose by theatrical composer Hershey Kay.
